While vacationing on the Bruce Peninsula (on Lake Huron), my family and I trouped off to South Hampton to collect rocks on the beach, check out a favorite antique store (closed!), and go to Armen's for a bite, as we have been doing for the last 5 years. Armen's is named after the chef owner and is a little cafe with exceptional food at very reasonable prices. I really enjoy Armen's homemade desserts and especially the individual lemon meringue pies which are delicious and lovely to look at.
The various desserts including Chocolate peanut butter cheesecake and Pumpkin pie.
My extended family have owned cottages in the lovely and peaceful Oliphant on Lake Huron for many years. Sauble Beach is a 10 minute drive from Oliphant and is where you go to get your shopping and people fix. It has a great, yet extremely crowded, beach and is an appropriate and entertaining place for children of all ages. The 2 Chicks Cafe, in Sauble, has Internet access and a healthy kids menu. Their site which lets you check out their menu also offers some nice pics of Sauble.
Here is a Lemon Meringue Pie recipe from Oprah's site which uses pie crust as the base and is similar to Armens':
PEACHES
Here is a wonderfully simple summer dessert recipe, making good use of peaches, that I have had for many years. I came across it in Canadian Living Magazine maybe 13 years ago but was not able to find it on their site. Strangely Recipezaar has the exact same recipe on its' site ...so there you go. This recipe must be made with in season peaches!
